NOTE: BIKING IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE RENDEZVOUS SKI TRAILS AND OTHER GROOMED SKI TRAILS AT ANY TIME OTHER THAN EQUINOX RACE WEEKEND.  THERE ARE MANY MILES OF MULTIUSE TRAIL IN THE AREA.  CONTACT THE HEBGEN LAKE RANGER DISTRICT OF THE GALLATIN NATIONAL FOREST TO OBTAIN TRAIL MAPS FOR MULTIUSE AND FATBIKE FRIENDLY TRAILS.

It is happening!  The only 24 Hour winter snowbike event..anywhere?

We have secured permission from the Forest Service, who manages the Rendezvous Ski Trails, to allow fatbikes on the trails for this special event.  A per the Equinox usual, relay teams and soloists are invited to enter the 3, 6, 12, or 24 Hour events.  The course will be a 4-6 mile loop primarily on groomed nordic ski trails.  The course will be separate from the skiers for the first 8 hours or so, then we may consolidate depending on conditions and numbers.  Registration is open and is limited to 50 bike participants.  Stay tuned for updates.

Trail etiquette- Welcome to a true multiple use event!  Trail etiquette is essential for all to come away happy and with our fur intact.  These trails are maintained by skiers.  Adding bikes and runners to the mix is being done with appreciation.  With that, skiers will have right of way where the courses intersect and overlap.  Also, bikes have the POTENTIAL to damage the trails in a way that makes it less pleasant to ski on.  We want to minimize this by encouraging bikes to only use the trails when they are very firm and durable, and by using flotation bikes with tires such as the Surly Endomorph that are 3.5-4 inches wide.

Bike Requirements- We ask that all riders use fatbikes such as the Surly Pugsley, 9:zero:7, Fatback, Salsa Mukluk, Twenty2 Cycles Bully, Vicious and others which have 60-100mm rims and 3.7-4.7 inch tires.  Other bikes will be accepted IF THEY ARE NOT IMPACTING THE TRAILS MORE THAN A FLOTATION BIKE.  This may be the case during the depths of the evening, but is very unlikely during the typically warm spring daytime.  Rent, borrow, share with teammates, or sleep and ride when it is fast!

Bike Rentals- We have flotation bikes available for rental and are working on making more accessible.  For starters, check Fitzgeralds Bicycles in Victor, ID. Other shops in the arrea are also renting bikes.  Our suggestion....go Cutters style and rent one bike for the team!

More Info-  For more info on snowbiking, look up any of the manufacturers listed above on the web or check out some of the forums on mtbr.com which delve into finer points of snowbiking.  Twenty2 Cycles has a thorough fatbike event calendar for the continental U.S.
